The primary focus in designing this magazine was to create a visually engaging and culturally resonant platform that amplifies the voices and stories of Black individuals and their communities. The design process was driven by a deep understanding of the need for a publication that informs, celebrates, and empowers its readers. Bold, vibrant colors, striking typography, and dynamic layouts were carefully selected to reflect the energy and richness of Black culture while maintaining a clean and modern aesthetic.
As part of the magazine's research process, I delved into the life and work of Kellie Bowman, Dr. Sebi's daughter, to highlight her significant impact on the health community. This feature aimed to inspire readers to embrace sustainable and mindful eating habits while honoring the legacy of Black health pioneers.

In addition to highlighting individual figures like Kellie Bowman, I aimed to address broader systemic issues affecting marginalized communities, particularly concerning schools, housing, and access to healthy food. One story focused on the discrimination faced by Black children in schools due to restrictions on their hairstyles, shedding light on how policies often target and criminalize natural Black hair, reinforcing harmful stereotypes and limiting self-expression. I explored how these discriminatory practices affect students' self-esteem and mental health, calling attention to the ongoing fight for cultural acceptance and inclusivity in educational environments.
One of the most rewarding parts of creating this magazine was the visual research where I discovered and highlighted individuals and organizations making a positive impact in their communities, yet often overlooked in mainstream media. I enjoyed curating stories of local activists, health advocates, and community leaders, using powerful visuals to amplify their voices and celebrate their contributions. This allowed me to showcase inspiring work that fosters change and empowers communities.
